In the grocery store you should trust your senses. Always look for fresh fruits and vegetables that are not bruised, shriveled, moldy, or slimy. Don’t buy anything that smells bad. Do not buy packaged vegetables that look slimy or moldy. Buy only what you need and will eat soon. Always keep meats separate from produce. In you home always handle fresh fruits and vegetables very carefully. Put produce away promptly, and keep it in the crisper in the refrigerator. Remember to keep all cut fruits and vegetables covered in the refrigerator, and throw away produce that is too old. Always wash all fruits and vegetables in clean drinking water before eating. Do not use any soaps or bleach when washing fruits and vegetables. Store prepared fruit salads and other cut produce in the refrigerator until just before serving. Discard cut produce if it has been out of the refrigerator for four hours or more. Also avoid eating undercooked ground beef (the inside is pink), drinking of contaminated water and drinking non pasteurized milk.
